Meet-A-Member: Please meet Melanie Karmazin, also Meet-A-Member: Please meet Melanie Karmazin, also known as Chef Melanie! Melanie joined out of a desire to give back. Melanie recently gave back in a big way by committing to donate a cooking class as a silent auction prize during our Bids To Benefit Fundraiser.

A little bit about Chef Melanie: Chef Melanie Underwood developed her enthusiasm for fresh and organic food as a child on her family's farm in Loudoun County, Virginia, where she began cooking at age four. She apprenticed in Washington, D.C., before moving to New York, where she demonstrated her talent for cooking and baking at the Four Seasons Hotel, the Plaza Hotel, Torre di Pisa, and other celebrated New York City restaurants. Since 1996 Underwood has been sharing her expertise as a cooking and baking instructor for professional and recreational programs at the Institute for Culinary Education (ice.edu), has taught private cooking classes, and is frequently invited to teach cooking and speak on creativity and how to bring it to the workplace.

Please reach out and say hello!

The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) is honored t The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) is honored to highlight Wilma Joseph Dolcy, Community Service Director, and Elder Reggie Major of the Beulah Community Service Department as long-time partners in our commitment to fighting hunger in Southern Westchester. In their words, the monthly Mobile Food Pantry the JLB volunteers at and sponsors, "provides food to families who are struggling with putting food on their tables. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need has become greater than before. Our food lines have become longer and families from various neighborhoods are now coming to our site for support. The many stories that are shared are heartbreaking, however, we are grateful that our heavenly father has placed us in a unique position, not only to provide food, but also emotional support to his children. We could not have accomplished this task without the members of the Junior League of Bronxville."

In 2010 Mrs. Dolcy accepted the challenge of eliminating hunger in her community and started the work by distributing bread, and a year later expanded offerings to include the Mobile Food Pantry through Feeding Westchester. In 2014, after years of personally funding these efforts along with support from Elder Tawdeen and Elder Taylor, Mrs. Dolcy was introduced to the Junior League of Bronxville, who provided volunteers for distribution and financial sponsorship of the monthly Mobile Food Pantry.

Elder Major, a former member of Beulah SDA church, after an extended trip abroad returned to the church in 2015 and immersed himself in the Community Service Department. He provided support and guidance to the department and assisted with the weekly bread and monthly food distributions. He has established a bond and level of respect with the members of the community and the church.
