Jeanne Petrek, MD Breast Cancer Walk
This annual walk raises money for breast cancer research. It is in memory of Dr. Petrek, a world renowned breast cancer researcher. The walk is planned by our Community Events Committee.

Mount Vernon Head Start Bookmaking
The goal of this placement is to introduce and reinforce the alphabet, as a key pre-literacy concept, to the children enrolled in the Mount Vernon Head Start Program.

Wartburg Adult Care
The Wartburg project is a lively and dynamic program offering JLB volunteers the opportunity to meet with seniors in our local community.

Backpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies provides food-insecure children in Yonkers, NY with essentials for healthy weekend meals. JLB members distribute backpacks filled with non-perishable foods to children who attend an after-school program at the Family YMCA in Yonkers, NY. Partners in the program include the Westchester Food Bank and Feeding America.

Community Events Committee
This committee works with other community partners to develop and produce three community-wide projects throughout the League year, specifically the Jeanne A. Petrek, M.D. Breast Cancer Walk in the Fall, and two additional outreach events. For the 2007-2008 year, they held a Holiday Gift Drive for children in Eastchester and Mount Vernon and teamed up with Habitat for Humanity in May 2008 to help families in need.

Community Service Associates (CSA)
Located in Mt. Vernon, CSA provides dinner to members of the community in need.
