THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF BRONXVILLE COMMEMORATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH FRESH, CONTEMPORARY COOKBOOK: BEYOND ONE SQUARE MILE Three Generations of Members’ Timeless Recipes Tailored for the 21st Century November, 2008– Beyond One Square Mile: A Collection of Recipes Celebrating 60 Years of the Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) newly released on November 4, 2008. With its sleek “coffee-table book” design, this far-reaching cookbook offers over one hundred winning recipes – with accompanying personal anecdotes – contributed by three generations of dedicated JLB members. Also of interest are newly unveiled historical photographs and concise histories of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe and Yonkers – the areas in which the JLB has proudly offered its wide range of vital community services since 1948. All proceeds will benefit ongoing and future JLB programs, which continue to enhance the lives of children and families and the elderly, through advocacy and direct community service to those in need. One recipe that will surely satisfy all palates is Grandma’s Dream Cakes, a dense, sweet amalgam of chocolate, coconut, pecans and sinfully buttery shortbread, dating back to the 1940s. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Sweet Pea Risotto with Seared Scallops, bursting with fresh spring flavors and the perfect balance of citrus-glazed silky scallops.
Seasoned cooks and novices alike will delve into twists on old classics and creative, new recipes, both inspiring and spicing up one’s daily repertoire. Be assured of consistent and excellent results, as each recipe was painstakingly tested and evaluated by a dedicated, food savvy committee and numerous JLB members.
Just in time for the holiday season, this color, hardbound tome is on par with any chef-created cookbook and will make an impressive and thoughtful gift for anyone interested in cooking and entertaining. As well as those interested in Bronxville Village, its surrounding areas, and/or the Junior League organization as a whole.
